“I am 85 and have lived at Danny for about ten years. It is an ‘original’, I think, as a retirement home. Each apartment is different; I now live in what used to be the old kitchen but you’d be pushed to find any trace of cooking! We eat in a big dining room, which helps people mingle if they wish and remain solitary if they prefer. There is high-quality music once a week and often other events ranging from National Trust talks to local theatre productions. Danny is a far cry from a sterile retirement home and you would be unfortunate not to find some kindred spirits.”

“The sense of community among the residents is heartwarming, with plenty of opportunities to form new friendships and share experiences.”

“Whether it is the charming family picnic days in the summer gardens, the wonderful annual trips to Glyndebourne, or the raucous and not-to-be-missed Christmas party with dancing residents late into the night, it is all very charming and a tad eccentric. Danny is nothing like a care home, but it is a very caring place to call home.”

“There is weekly entertainment from jazz, classical and swing music to beyond. Every year all clients can attend a black-tie Christmas dinner and dance, fireworks and summer picnics. My uncle was so happy here and would highly recommend it.”

“Danny House is unique. Nestled in its acres with lambs, pigs, and alpacas, it is idyllic — but more than that, it is very well-run and a lovely place for retirement. I don’t know anywhere else that offers what Danny can: a house from the 1590s with its sense of history, belonging and tremendous country living, while still offering first-class accommodation.”
John R.

“Danny House has been my mother’s home for three years. She is 91 now and looks and feels younger and happier than she did when she arrived.”
Alison R.

“Danny House has an amazing community and family spirit — everyone is always there for each other. The fantastic team of staff make residents feel very special, and residents and staff alike are blessed to be living and working there.”
Winnie A.

“Above all, Danny enables its residents to keep their independence while taking care of chores like cooking and cleaning that one may no longer want to tackle in later years. Overall, it is a fantastic and completely unique place to live.”
Simon L.

“A beautiful building which regularly opens its doors to the public. It has world-class musicians who perform in an intimate setting, fun summer days like historic cricket matches, and fireworks in November that draw people from surrounding villages.”
Susannah B.

“My mother has lived at Danny for the last five years, and it has been a wonderful, enriching experience for her and for our whole family. Community and the feeling that the house is really her home are Danny’s greatest virtues. Mum loves gardening, and she and her friends use the greenhouse and grow a plot — they produce most of the cut flowers for the house each year. It has been the perfect solution for our family, and I would recommend anyone in a similar situation to visit and see what Danny can offer.”
Sarah M.

“Danny residents get to enjoy themselves and live long, fulfilled lives in a way that is hard to match elsewhere. Set in beautiful grounds and a wonderful building, and with caring management, I have no hesitation in recommending Danny.”
