Some of the larger paintings in the Great Hall are being cleaned and conserved by French lady, Amandine Thepaut. She frst cleans the paintings with water using a delicate sponge, and then slowly dissolves away the centuries of grime and old varnish using solvents and alcohol, to reveal the original colours of the paintings. She will then varnish them anew, to protect the paint, and the paintings will be put back on the walls with picture lights so they can be fully appreciated.
