Cleaning and Conservation of Paintings

Some of the larger paintings in the Great Hall are being cleaned and conserved by French lady, Amandine Thepaut. She frst cleans the paintings with water using a delicate sponge, and then slowly dissolves away the centuries of grime and old varnish using solvents and alcohol, to reveal the original colours of the paintings. On a glorious summer day, nearly 1,000 people attended a garden party to commemorate the end of WW1 and Prime Minister Lloyd George agreeing to the terms of the Armistice whilst resident at Danny.
